First illustration for my class with Melissa Ferreira. It's supposed to be the language barrier. Since I speak French rather well, it is more the actuality of being in a foreign culture, submerged in something you thought you knew before, but really don't. I played with sterotypes/images we have of France and conversations you are stuck in the middle of, which you cannot understand. Learning academic French in a big help but speaking it conversationally in its motherland is vastly different. The piece isn't that strong, I was very timid, playing with crayons and grays. Anywho I enjoy the characters. Cartoons are fun but I need more to it than that I think.
And here is a major major breakthrough!
Sleeping Beauty, according to Perrault: http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/perrault01.html
Illustrated for Children's book...later scene of Steward sent to kill Dawn, Beauty's daughter, and feed her to the Prince's ogr-ish mother...i thought it was bizarre...
So this is probably the first time I actually feel like an illustrator. Something is beggining to happen!
Enjoy!
Random sketch I did of a Sargent drawing in Photoshop. Trying to play around with comp. ill. just to see where it takes me. I really enjoyed the tablet in the class, but I haven't touched one since.
These are so impressive! I'm glad your experience has been exciting and fulfilling.
